  • 4 Alger 6 pounder "Cadet gun" with the oval seal of the commonwealth of Virgina on the barrel.

The Cadet Battery was commanded by Major Thomas J. Jackson, later known as “Stonewall” Jackson. He was professor the Instructor of Artillery at the Virginia Military Institute from 1851 until the break of the Civil War in 1861.

The four Alger guns were named Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John by William Pendleton., an Episcopal minister and commander of the Rockbridge Artillery unit,
